The NCLEX-RN (National
Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) is the final step between
nursing school and a professional career as a Registered Nurse in Canada. For
many students and internationally educated nurses (IENs), understanding the
exam format and building a realistic study plan are the keys to passing
confidently.
Canadian regulatory bodies such as the
College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and the
British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives
(BCCNM) require candidates to pass the NCLEX-RN to ensure safe
and competent nursing practice. The test is delivered on a computer using a
method called Computer Adaptive Testing
(CAT).
What does CAT mean?
Each question adapts in difficulty depending on your previous answers. The goal
is to determine your true ability level efficiently — so no two people get the
same test.
Tip: Do not expect to see the
same set of questions twice — the test is fully adaptive and unique for each
candidate.
Most students prepare for 8–12 weeks. Plan for at
least 2 hours per day of focused digital study time. Consistency matters more
than cramming.
Use Priya Basil Academy’s digital modules to review
fundamentals like pharmacology, infection control, and nursing prioritization.
Each topic is presented with concept-based explanations and practice questions
that build critical thinking skills.
Simulate the real testing environment once per
week. Review each question’s rationale carefully to understand why an answer is
correct or incorrect. This improves clinical judgment — the core of the Next
Generation NCLEX.
Keep a digital study journal to record your weak
areas. Revisit topics like physiological adaptation and safety until you score
consistently above 75% on practice tests.
